Before we can talk about the various methodologies in this series, we need to understand the key difference between a process and methodology. Methodology: A methodology is defined as the ‘way we do things’. It can contain several processes. We can also define this as an activity that involves methods, rules and tools to execute a given set of tasks. I tend to think that a software development methodology can be more synonymous to the phrase Software development ‘philosophy’ Process: A process is defined as ‘how we do things’. Simple Example: SDLC is a methodology while Design is a process. My belief is, if you can immediately start to work with it, it’s probably a process – a methodology requires more adaptation.
